Short films can be a powerful tool for exploring and representing social groups or issues. They can be used to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, or start important conversations about important topics.   One way that short films can represent social groups is by portraying diverse characters and experiences. By featuring people from different backgrounds, cultures, and identities, short films can help to break down stereotypes and promote understanding and empathy. Our film did a brilliant way of doing such due to the diversity on the screen. Jordyn being black, Pedro and I being Brazilian , we have a variety of cultures and stereotypes being represented!   Short films can also address specific social issues, such as discrimination, inequality, or injustice. They can tell the stories of marginalized or underrepresented groups, shed light on important social problems, and inspire viewers to take action. We took the opportunity to address drug trafficking in today’s youths, wh

Filming once more

Image
Today we filmed. We filmed some scenes with Pedro dressed as a crazy homeless man fighting Jordyn, and we got some scenes of Pedro and I making some very important calls. We used Pedro's car because the interior is black and leathery so it looked way cooler. I got to do Pedro's makeup and I made him look dirty and neglected. After that, we went to the park and got our scenes filmed. For some reason, nobody could remember their lines today. I don't know why. It caused us to mess up a lot though. It was also hilarious! I kept laughing while recording. It was so unserious how do you expect me to keep  straight face? We had to refilm so many scenes it was insane. When we got back to my house we just hung out for a bit before it got dark. My brother came home so we ate and played around with him for a while. Jordyn pointed out the fact that we were running out of time so we ran out to film these scenes! I have a few cop friends and I wanted to use their police lights but they w

Park!

When we were tasked with creating a short film, my group and I decided to shoot a scene for our film at a park. We loved the idea of capturing the natural beauty of the park and wanted to use the landscape to enhance our storytelling. We picked a park out in class. It's close to my house so it works out great! Before filming, we scouted the location and chose several key areas to shoot. We made sure to follow the park's rules and regulations. Safety was also a top priority, so we made sure to have a first-aid kit and a plan in case of any emergencies. When we arrived, we set up our equipment and made final adjustments. God was on our side. It was such a beautiful and quiet night. The lighting was perfect for our film. It really captured the intenseness. Filming in a public space like a park comes with some challenges. For example, we had to deal with changes in lighting due to weather conditions. However, we worked through these challenges and were able to capture some beautifu

Discussion

Image
Happy Thursday! Today, we took some time to discuss our film. Discussing a project in class can be a valuable and nerve-wracking experience. It's a chance for us to share our creative ideas, receive constructive feedback, and collaborate. And that's exactly what we did. My group and I had spent several weeks developing our idea, writing the script, and planning out every shot. We are eager to present our film to our friends and receive feedback. In order to do that we need to make sure our film is good. We had many questions and comments, ranging from technical aspects to the storytelling and characterization. As the discussion went on, we realized that some aspects of our film were unclear. We quickly decided that we needed to make some changes to strengthen the storytelling. It was all over the place. The discussion helped us see our film from different perspectives and identify areas that needed improvement. We went back to the clips and realized what we needed to fix. In co

Things happen. There are always unexpected challenges that arise on set. No matter how much planning and preparation we do, there are certain things that I just can't control. Remember how I had mentioned that my house was undergoing some construction? Well, it kind of affected us big time today.   It was a beautiful day out, and we were ready to go. we were excited to get started. I had just finished getting ready when I realized my dad was still working outside. I tried to ignore it at first, but I realized it wasn't going to end anytime soon. We decided to pause filming. Th e day's shoot was in jeopardy. We took a moment to regroup and assess. It quickly became clear that we needed to figure out a date that we could all film and that wouldn't be interrupted. We overcame our challenges through teamwork and creative problem-solving. Looking back on today, I'm proud of the resilience and determination that our team displayed. Filming can be unpredictable, and unexp

Yesterday I made sure to wake up early to ensure that I have enough time to prep before Pedro and Jordyn arrived at my house. This included reviewing the script, storyboard, and our production schedule. I make sure that I have all the equipment and resources I need to execute the day's shoot. Once everyone is ready, we made sure everything is set up and ready to go before filming in order to save time. This also gives us a chance to do a final walkthrough and make any necessary adjustments. We worked through each scene we could, making sure to capture everything we need. I got to do Jordyn's makeup... I felt like a professional! We took a well needed break and talked for a little. Pedro tried to throw me in the pool! After a long day of filming, we wrap up and pack up the equipment. We review the footage we've captured throughout the day and make a note of any additional shots or pickups we might need in the near future. We made sure to review the footage, favoriting the b
