Short films can be a powerful tool for exploring and representing social groups or issues. They can be used to raise awareness, challenge stereotypes, or start important conversations about important topics.

One way that short films can represent social groups is by portraying diverse characters and experiences. By featuring people from different backgrounds, cultures, and identities, short films can help to break down stereotypes and promote understanding and empathy. Our film did a brilliant way of doing such due to the diversity on the screen. Jordyn being black, Pedro and I being Brazilian, we have a variety of cultures and stereotypes being represented!

Short films can also address specific social issues, such as discrimination, inequality, or injustice. They can tell the stories of marginalized or underrepresented groups, shed light on important social problems, and inspire viewers to take action. We took the opportunity to address drug trafficking in today’s youths, while providing the solution of what to do if someone were to ever be put in that position.

The visual elements of our film, such as the color palette, create a consistent look and feel that reinforces the mysterious and thrilling brand identity- this helps to create a memorable and recognizable brand image that viewers can easily associate with the film.

Also, the sound effects, and other audio elements can also contribute to branding by creating a distinctive and memorable sound that is associated with the film. This creates a strong emotional connection with viewers and reinforces the brand identity.

Ultimately, the narrative and storytelling elements of a film can also contribute to branding by conveying the film's values and message in a compelling and engaging way. By using storytelling techniques that align with the brand identity, the film can create a strong and lasting impression on the viewer.

Our short film engages with its audience in a variety of ways, such as: Telling a compelling story, creating an emotional connection, using humor, using visuals and music. And addressing important social issues. Overall, a short film can engage with its audience in many ways, and the most effective way will depend on the specific film and its intended audience. And I think our film conveys that perfectly.

Research can be an essential tool for developing a short film. It can help the filmmaker to understand their audience, identify themes and motifs, and gain inspiration for their creative work. Audience, genre, historical, and technical research are all necessary and beneficial in order to make a complete film that’s easy for the audience to comprehend. In terms of using or challenging conventions, research definitely helped us identify the typical elements and techniques used in a particular genre or style of filmmaking. In summary, research can be a vital tool in informing and influencing the development of a short film. It can help the filmmaker to understand their audience, genre, subject matter, and technical aspects of filmmaking, and use or challenge conventions creatively to create a unique and engaging film.
