Title Design Research: Underwater

Image
  1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film? Which ones?  28 titles in total, these titles included, name of studio, name of production company, actor(s) names, film title, music by, edited by, produced by, and directed by.  2. What connotations do the images carry? (How do they make you feel)  The connotations presented a very eerie feeling as if something was going to pop out and scare you especially since it "takes place" under water.   3. How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)  While watching this title sequence, I was thinking that this movie may be horror or thriller related. After searching up the movie to find out if I was correct, I came to find out that the genre is horror/sci-fi. I understand the horror part since the movie is underwater and the brief description is saying that they dug something up and don't know what came out. The s...

1. How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences of the film? Which ones? There were 45 titles in total. These were names of the production company, who directed the film, the actors, the editing crew, etc...  2. What connotations did the images carry? (How do they make you feel) The images ae glitchy. Personally, I got uneasy. There was a lot going on it was pretty difficult to read. Especially with the music in the back, it was just a lot.  3. How is the genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset? (Can you tell what genre the film is)  I wasn't able to tell what type of genre this movie was. Initially, I got something with technology because of the glitches, but it looked a lot like a Marvel film due to the music, colors, and speed. The music also builds up a lot of suspension and really keeps the viewer on their toes. The title tells me that it might be Crime related. In actuality, the film is a Horror/ Thriller.  4. Wh...

Title Website Research

Image
During this time together, my group and I found two websites that would be able to help us with our title design. The first website we found was www.artofthetitle.com . My group and I think that this is the website that will help us the most. This website gives very detailed descriptions of what it provides. Some things this website provides is the year the movie was made, name of the movie, and whether it is an opening title sequence or a summary of the movie. Since my group and I are mainly focused on the title sequence, it is very helpful that this website provides whether it’s an opening sequence or a summary of the entire movie. When first entering the website, it was a little complicated, my group and I were surely stumped at some point. To find everything you need, you will first need to click on title sequences at the top left-hand side of the page. After clicking that, you will click all titles where every movie they have will be displayed for you. This is where you will...

Decisions, Decisions...

Image
Choosing a genre for our movie was slightly hard, there are many different advantages that come with each genre. With Horror, there were many great aspects, it had many great camera angles such as the low angle, the high angle and tilted angles. It also had establishing scenes that build up tension and bring excitement to a viewer. On the other hand, the True Crime genre brings realism. With c lose-up, extreme close-up shots, dolly movements, handheld shots, and over the shoulder shots, that get the viewer wondering and suspenseful.   But ultimately after deep consideration, our group has decided that our genre for our movie will be Thriller. There are many different advantages to the thriller genre, for one, the thriller genre is many different genres fused into one. But one main distinctive characteristic of this genre is a plot twist. Usually in a thriller the point is to thrill the viewer, and the way that movie directors do this with the thriller genre is by a...
