Genre Research: Big Catch

 When looking for comedy short films on the websites given, we were unable to find any pertaining to comedy My team and I decided that it would be best to just look for one on Youtube rather than struggling to find one on the websites. Before going to Youtube we checked the regular internet where we mainly found films in our genre but they were full length. The first film we found on Youtube was "Big Catch." This interested us first because of the thumbnail. The thumbnail for this short was a picture of a man sitting with headphones and a shark behind him smiling. Seeing this, we automatically assumed that the shark would be trying to eat this man, but we did not know how it planned on going about it. In this film, there is no dialogue but there is diegetic sound where we can hear the birds making noise, the squeaking of the the shark on the deck, and the shark screaming as he realizes he is about to be thrown back into the ocean. Since this was an animated film, a lot of editing went into it. One can see that the editors took a lot of time to make all the animals and one human look life like so it wouldn't look like a regular animated film with weird looking figures. They make the short look wobbly on land as if it had no bones and made both the shark and seagulls scream as if they were humans. The elements of a comedy film that my team and I really like is that a lot of short films don't have bad jokes or there are forceful laughs. My team and I genuinely had a good time watching this film and would recommend it to a younger generation since it is animated. An element my team and I don't like about comedy films is that sometimes the actors or the story in general isn't funny. It won't be something that anyone can sit down and be able to laugh at, it would be depicted for a certain audience which isn't what someone is looking for when going to watch a comedy. People are going to laugh for the entire movie, recommend it to others, and go back to watch it again. We are very excited to look at other shorts in this genre that we can sit down in laugh at. We truly believe that we chose the right genre for our film.

Story Board

   During this class period, my partner and I set up our storyboard for our Crocs commercial. We decided on how the commercial would be set up first and then how we would set up the storyboard that will coordinate with our commercial. In our first box, we have the actress holding a pair of crocs to show the jibbitz/gems off that decorate the crocs. In our second box, the actor is seen putting on their crocs while they are sitting on a bench located in the school. The third box shows the actor walking with the crocs on in both sports and comfortable mode. After the shoes are shown in both of the different wearable modes, the cameraman or woman will zoom into the crocs, showing the different angles of the shoes. Finally, our last box/part of our commercial will include the actors dancing as the crocs slogan comes on the scene concluding our commercial.
