1. !. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does
it represent social groups or issues?
Since conventions are things used to
represent, my group used legs, feet, and clothing as conventions. These
conventions were used to display versatility in race, comfortability, and
style. It represents social groups by showing different skin tones, durability,
and “modes” (Sports and regular) being worn. We had old and new crocs displayed
in the commercial. Showing that however you choose to wear the product, they
are made for any and every one; like the slogan “Crocs. Come as you are.” Meaning
all are welcome regardless of who you are.
2. How does your product engage with
audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The commercial
is set in a relaxed setting. The music and lighting are what really define the video.
The song selection was chosen to make you feel calm, to represent what it’s
like wearing the shoe. If this were a real commercial, it would be distributed
in malls, on television programs like Nick, Disney, Cartoon Network, Discovery,
and many more. Advertisements throughout social media like Instagram, TikTok,
Snapchat, Facebook, etc and gaming and shopping websites like Cool Math Games,
Macy’s, Poptropica, too. Even on streaming apps like Hulu, which makes you
watch commercials if you don’t pay for premium. Spotify ads in between songs
too! Crocs are extremely popular amongst teenagers and children so they would
be the target market. Anything that we could get to attract and interest that
specific group is needed. Not saying that crocs are specifically designed for
teens and kids, but they are a lot more common amongst that social group, so
chances of getting more buyers would be towards the trending group.
3. 3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
Before this project,
I had little to no experience with filming and editing. Although my partner did
a lot of the editing, I learned so much. Hopefully we’ll switch roles on the next
project, and I’ll do the editing! Retaking shots over and over again to make
sure things blended into each other perfectly and making sure that the videos
had similar and proper lighting were just two of many things I didn’t understand
the importance of at first. When I saw the final product, I realized how
crucial those little things are and now those are things I won’t be forgetting
to note next time I film.
4.
How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this
project?
For the commercial, we used my partners
phone, an iPhone 12 Pro Max, to film since the camera quality is better than my
iPhone XS. The video was edited on iMovie, an editing app by Apple. My partner
and I write our blogs and do our research on our laptops. She uses a MacBook
Air and I use an HP Pavilion. The sites we used were mainly YouTube. We used it
to look up different commercials for inspiration. We wanted to see what we
could do that would come out almost as good as a full production commercial.
